Hey Leno, How's This for "Gayest Look"?!

Jeff Whitless vs. Jay LenoBroadway playwright Jeff Whitty is once again lashing out at Jay Leno -- this time for asking Ryan Phillippe to give his "gayest look" on the "Tonight Show."

During an interview last week, Leno made light of Ryan's first acting role -- playing a gay teen on "One Life to Live"-- by asking the visibly uncomfortable star to give him his "gayest look." Queer eye for the unfunny guy!

In a letter on his website, Whitty, who won a Tony for "Avenue Q" and is openly gay, calls Jay a jerk for "using the stereotype that we're laughable and really, all the same in the end." Whitty also links to various images and articles of "gay faces" -- like slain teen and hate-crime victim Lawrence King -- and asks Jay, "Which one's the gayest to you?"

After sparring in 2006 over Jay's relentless "gay-baiting" jokes, Whitty and Leno allegedly talked and, er, straightened out the matter. But with this latest incident, it's safe to say Leno and Whitty aren't exactly fishin' buddies.

TMZ contacted a "Tonight Show" rep, but have not heard back.

31. Everybody's so friggin sensitive these days....opinions are like a**holes, everyone's got one...including Jay Leno. If he wants to make the kinds of jokes he makes, he's entitled to do so. Freedom of speech....if you don't like it, don't watch it. I'm completely sick of minority agendas shaping our society including what we see on tv. I have nothing against individual gay people but as a whole they are given way too much power. Every show on tv now has the token gay person, there are gay only channels, gay only cruise lines, and so on. And it's not only gay people that are doing it...there are also black only channels, hispanic only channels...if there was ever a white only ANYTHING, or straight only anything, what would happen then?? Riots in the streets! The point of all this? It doesn't matter what is portrayed on television, everybody still has their own opinion when they are off the air and that will never change, no matter of how "tolerant" of a society we have, or should, become so if somebody hurts your feelings on tv, SUCK IT UP PRINCESS, because it's everywhere - deal with it and move on!

32. I believe Leno did absolutely nothing wrong. ITS CALLED THE FIRST AMENDMENT. If he wants to make gay jokes, then good. If anyone wants to make jokes about any type of person, then great! That's one of the main reasons I enjoy the comedy of guys like Carlos Mencia, He's not afraid to say what's on his mind, and Leno went with that. If more comedians, and people in general, spoke their mind, this country would be a thousand times better.

36. Jay Leno doesn't hate Gays. He has that twit Ross the Intern on frequently - and he is embarrassingly Gay. Not funny, either.

40. I hate Jay Leno. He is close minder, ignorant, half witted, uninformed, humorless, rude, judgmental, small-minded, defensive, mind-numbingly dull and really stupid.

42. Yeah, I've noticed he does that quite often. I'm a straight man, and even I feel a little uncomfortable when he does it because one of my brothers is gay and I think it's mean-spirited. One time he did it when I was visiting my brother and it happened when we were all watching the show. I consider myself sorta "politically incorrect", but I know mean-spiritedness when I see it.

44. Disgustingly, Jay's comedy is almost always at the expense of his guests. His inappropriate probing is common and derogatory regardless of the guest race, sex orientation or celebrity status. It is unbeleivable to me that people continue to agree to appear on his show...especially those who do not need the 20 minutes of exposure. Instead they get 20 minutes of bainless ribbing from the playground bully. (oops, I mean oaf)

45. It always amazes me how quick people are to demand that someone should have their freedom of speech taken away for offending the gay community, or any other minority group for that matter. Especially when we see people like Jennie, and others on the “left” defend the right of free speech when exercised by protesters in Chicago to disrupt an Easter church service. Liberals are funny like that; it seems like free speech is only important to them when it is speech they agree with.
